Top 5 Things to Watch
Sunday, February 1, 2026 4:58AM CST

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Feb. 1. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Standard Time unless otherwise noted.

1. NCBA CattleCon: Several of our staff will be at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association convention in Nashville, Tennessee, this week, so look for reporting from the Music City. The latest cattle inventory report will be hot on everyone's mind. For our article on that, see here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

2. February Progressive Farmer: A new month means a new issue, so watch for the February magazine to hit mailboxes this week. You can also check out digital versions of those stories in our Magazine section online. (https://www.dtnpf.com/…)

3. Winter weather update: A couple of systems will move through the U.S. this week. One mid-week could bring some precipitation to much of the U.S. A stronger clipper should hit later in the week or weekend and bring colder air, particularly across the East. Otherwise, temperatures will trend higher, though areas across the South and East will take longer to warm up because of the recent heavy snow. The East Coast will not likely see above-normal temperatures before that clipper front hits, so will likely stay cold through the end of the week.

4. South America weather: Spotty showers continue in southern Brazil early in the week. Spotty showers may also develop over southern Argentina but are not expected to add significant moisture to crops. A late-week front may bring heavier rain to southern Argentina through the weekend.

5. Reports due this week: Monday at 9 a.m., ISM Manufacturing data. At 10 a.m., Grain Inspections. At 2 p.m., Fats and Oils, Flour Milling and Grain Crushings numbers. Tuesday at 9 a.m. we'll see Job Openings (JOLTS) for December and ISM Services for January. On Wednesday at 7:15 a.m. the ADP Employment data is out. At 9 a.m., Manufacturing and Shipments and Labor Market Tightness Index, then at 9:30 a.m., EIA's Weekly Petroleum Status, including ethanol production and stocks. At 11 a.m., State Stories data from NASS, and at 2 p.m., Broiler Hatchery. Thursday at 7:30 a.m. we'll see Grain Export sales, Initial Jobless Claims, Advanced International Trade in Goods, and Trade Balance reports. At 2 p.m. Slaughter Weekly and Turkey Hatchery. Friday at 7:30 a.m., Employment and Unemployment reports for January and the Hourly Wages report. At 9 a.m., Consumer Sentiment. Mid-day we'll see the Statistics Canada Stocks of Principal Field Crops report. At 2 p.m., Consumer Credit, Cost of Pollination from NASS and Farms and Land in Farms. At 2:30 p.m. the CFTC Commitment of Traders report is due.
